ISL Students Can Become Lifelong independent learners Creative and critical thinkers Problem solvers Cooperative and collaborative workers Skilled researchers Global communicators High School - English The English curriculum at ISL aims to develop each student's intellectual power: the power of critical and creative thinking and the power to express ideas. English is a vibrant and dynamic subject! It is vital in terms of developing students as articulate individuals who can think logically and write accurately. Whether it be in regular lessons, producing work for competitions, attending films and performances or listening to authors and other guest speakers, students are presented with many opportunities to not only learn vital literacy skills, but to develop a love of reading which lasts a lifetime. Strong writing is the emphasis and goal, but effective public speaking is its complement. We study a variety of literature--from Homer and Sophocles to Toni Morrison and Ernest Hemingway--appreciating the beauty, strength and complexity of the literature, along with the ideas, assumptions, and flaws. High School - English as Another Language - (EAL)
This course is for beginners who are studying intensively to acquire enough English to be able to follow their other courses. Therefore, we use a challenging, standard beginning English Textbook, which is for older learners and contains all the basic verb structures (Present, Past, Future and very basic Perfect Tenses) and introduces elementary syntax and clauses in sentence structure. Our goal is to deal with this level thoroughly but swiftly, so that the students can follow the rest of the school curriculum and to prevent the english language from being a barrier on comunication
