School project

All the students from grade 1 to grade 12 will participate in this project. A model of the Earth is going to be set up. – (A close environmental system), which means, no materials can move in or out of the system. Only light-energy can get in. It will be a pot of a plant, placed inside a transparent 25(Lt), sealed, plastic bottle, so nothing can move in or out. The mass of the whole thing, and the day of setting, will be recorded. The students will see the procedure of setting it up, and all the materials that will be used. The plant will be left in a place where students can observe it at any time and then, they can record their observations. Will the plant survive? For how long it will stay alive? Do you think the system will gain, loose weight, or stay the same? Prepare a report in the following form: - Title of the project - What is the aim in doing this experiment? - What is your prediction (Hypothesis)? Do you think the plant will survive and for how long? Do you think it will gain, loose or have the same mass after some time? - Draw the apparatus or describe the method of setting it up. - Record your observations - Can you draw a graph from the results you have collected? - At the end, was your prediction correct? What is your conclusion? Teachers in the elementary school can give some advice and help. A prize will be given for the best report

The House System

From January 2007 the school will be organized into two houses

All teachers and students will be attached to a house

Each house has a boy and girl captains and vice captains.

Each house will have a teacher as the head of the house and a teacher as the assistant who will ensure that all house activities are organized properly.

Houses meetings will be held regularly at lunch time. In the first meeting, elections will take place for the various positions, the name, the color, and the emblem of each house will also be decided.

The house system will help to build individual strength within the group and will create a bond with other students of different ages. It will give students a greater sense of belongings. Personal Project

We want to encourage students, to get involved with something they really like to do. A personal Project Some students are artistically oriented and love to draw or make things. Others could design, invent or construct models, could write music, songs, poetry and novels. Others could prepare their own computer games or set up a science investigation. Each student will have a supervisor teacher who will only advise and guide the student. Students can do their own research as well Adequate time will be given to students to complete their personal project. Everything should be completed by the 12th of May. An exhibition will be organized on the 22nd of May, where each student will display and explain his or her work to parents who will be invited to see these personal projects. (Details about the exhibition will be given later). Here are some ideas: - Make a movie - Write a song and the music and sing it - Write a short story or a play - Design and carry out an experiment and prepare a lab report - Design a game or use a computer to make your own game - Make a model of something( a building, a bridge, a car, an airplane, a boat, etc) - Make a statue by using different materials - Make a mosaic by using marble chips or beans - Use cartoons to make a story - Do a digital history of an event like the World War II by developing a web site to include photographs and facts. - Do a web- page video - Do a food and nutrition project - Design a booklet to advertise something. (Example, the aerobic, cardiovascular, emotional and social benefits of doing sports). Kindergarten and First grade students could work with shape and pattern, using oil pastels and watercolor to produce drawings for a theme such as a cat on a rug. During the exhibition, a team by three parents (the judges) will assess the originality, the quality and the effort given by every student on the project. Awards will be given.
